We started in the dark. The sun, when it came, was warm in the high clear air. I am never not in love with the intricacy of this rock, the fact that a tall mountain range can harbor such a massive hidden world. ✨ Day 8 from the #LowestToHighestRoute is up on my blog! I'll give u 2 guesses where the link is. πŸ“ The #L2H is on Shoshone and Pauite land
Storm light, it's the best light in the desert, the only drawback is you have to be out in the weather to catch it. Isn't that the case with everything, though? ✨ At night it's cold, the desert is silent, the coyotes surround my van. The flash of lightening or the rattle of rain wakes me up. In the morning the sun always returns. I make coffee in the bright desert warmth, the most comforting thing I know. ✨ A few days ago I bought tickets to go back to Alaska for a week in January- I'm going to look for my mom some more. I wish there was a way I could shore myself up in advance, make myself sturdier for the experience. The high seas of the heart. That's not how things work, though. I haven't been back to Anchorage in the winter in 23 years. I can't wait to smell the bus exhaust, to see the dirty snow. And the clean snow, heaped on the spruce trees. And the brightest stars in that long ass night. ✨ πŸ“This photo was taken on Tohono O'odham land
I had hives all over my body, we descended so steeply my toes jammed into the front of my shoes, we walked pavement across the Owens valley until my body was screaming in pain, we blissed out at Carls Jr while ppl stared at us. Day 7 from the #LowestToHighestRoute is up on my blog, link in profile! 😎 πŸ“The #L2H is on Shoshone and Paiute land
Ok. You've got all your gear. How do you even put all your gear into your pack so your pack is comfortable?! ✨ This video is a sample of the long, exhaustive gear video that is part of my PCT Thru-hiking online course (link in profile). In the full length video I pack my bag as if I'm about to start a 5 month northbound thru-hike of the PCT in late April or early May and then I take every single item out and explain its use. I then repack my bag, explaining my packing strategy as I go. ✨ How to Hike the PCT: An Online Workshop starts January 4th. The course is four weeks long, and once the material is released each week you have it forever, to consume at your own pace. There are videos, written material and homework, as well as a live Q&A each week. Space is limited- click the link in my profile for more deets or to sign up, and comment below with any questions! πŸ€“
The ridge of the Inyo mtns is a long cold jeep road pocked w abandoned mines. We gather water at a ghost town and sleep in an old shack next to a tram that once brought salt up from the valley below. The old shack is made a of thin boards and is just strong enough to keep out the wind. Day 6 from the #LowestToHighestRoute is up on my blog, link in profile! 🌝 πŸ“The #L2H is on Shoshone and Paiute land
An abandoned mine in Death Valley with a spring full of trout-sized goldfish, a scramble out of a canyon and a water cache that was partly destroyed by animals; day 5 from the #LowestToHighestRoute is up on my blog! (Link in profile) πŸ“The #L2H is on Shoshone and Paiute land
