What I have discovered

is the poetry of Mary Oliver. For example:

You are young. So you know everything. You leap into the boat and begin rowing. But, listen to me. Without fanfare, without embarrassment, without any doubt, I talk directly to your soul. Listen to me. Lift the oars from the water, let your arms rest, and your heart, and heart’s little intelligence, and listen to me. There is life without love. It is not worth a bent penny, or a scuffed shoe. It is not worth the body of a dead dog nine days unburied. When you hear, a mile away and still out of sight, the churn of the water as it begins to swirl and roil, fretting around the sharp rocks- when you hear that unmistakable pounding- when you feel the mist on your mouth and sense ahead the embattlement, the long falls plunging and steaming- then row, row for your life toward it.

Also, my computer’s not working right. It’s been getting slower for weeks, like a clogging drain, and as of today web pages won’t really load anymore. Even in another browser, still slow, still ground to a halt. Other stuff is slow, too- itunes and even opening word processing files. I had the anti-virus thing check for viruses- no viruses. I had the other thing check for spyware- none of that. What could it be? Any advice? I know y’all not only use your computers but might actually know how they work, too, unlike me. I can’t be trusted to maintain anything more highly evolved than a bicycle. Halp! Is slow!

  1. I know you said you ran anti-virus and spyware software but just be on the safe side and since I don’t know what software your using I would suggest downloading ClamWin which is a free open source anti-virus app, and Spy Bot Search and Destroy which is also open source spyware app.

Run both of those… If that doesn’t help at I would defragment the hard drive… If you don’t know how to do this just email me.

If your computer is still running like shit I would suggest looking at what is running in the background. Often when you install something, for example Yahoo IM it starts up running when you turn your computer on and this can suck down your processing power.

    I hope that helps some!

  2. I love Mary Oliver also. And I did get a tattoo of the last stanza from her poem Crows on my back, “Glossy and rowdy and indistinguishable the deep muscle of the world.”

Her way of capturing the beauty and rawness of the world all around us and our connectedness to it is unique beyond measure and masterful.

thanks for posting the text from west wind…good words for today.

  3. If you are on the web a lot, and I know you “stalk” a lot of blogs, try just dumping the “temporary files and the “cookies” first and se if that works. Spybot is very good and defraging would help. To dumpo temp files, open Int. Explorer. Go to tools on the top bar, select Internet options and follow…

  4. oh mary
