Can’t sleep in the heat four egg breakfast turnips and kale in coconut oil Kristi takes us in the hot car to REI trading in my darn toughs steak bowl at chipotle trader joes resupply shop n kart $2 probars sorting mountains of food trying to nap in the yard by the compost pile sweating down the backs of my knees Mitra takes us to her farm house cuts basil, fennel, lettuce, cooks us collard greens with sheep cheese staying up too late watching netflix, everyone sprawled out in the dark on the couches, empty beer bottles and blueberry cartons everywhere sleeping in the spare room surrounded by my resupply, windows flung open air beginning to move.

Awake too early leftovers breakfast all of us sleepy cleaning our messes, washing the tub and sweeping the floor, what a tornado ten hikers can make. Making my boxes making my boxes it’s hard to think it’s too hot to think. Safeway the UPS store post office riding in the hot car eating an underripe peach. Eating the last of the roast chicken, the last of the romaine, Twinkle’s leftover tacos. Watching Fly Young Red videos on youtube with Mitra and Woody then Andrew comes to take us all to the trail (thanks Andrew!), six people in a pickup in the dusk walk a mile through the long light to a field of yellow grass and a dry creek bed.

  1. Be careful eating that leftover stuff in the heat…yer liable to get the drizzles again! 🙂
It’s been hot and humid here in the high desert, but no rain. Yeah, I know I’m a wuss!
    Be safe…
