I just discovered that Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” and the first book of The Hunger Games have nearly identical opening lines.
Here’s Cormac McCarthy:
When he woke in the woods in the dark and the cold of the night he’d reach out to touch the child sleeping beside him.
And here’s the first book of The Hunger Games:
When I wake up, the other side of the bed is cold. My fingers stretch out, seeking Prim’s warmth but finding only the rough canvas cover of the mattress.
